Various Stuff
In this section you will be able to find various stuff that I find interesting to share and which I did not know where else to fit in. So far there is only one thing, but IMHO a pretty cool thing:
- Fried RFID
- if you haven't heard about RFID tags: RFID is short for Radio Frequency ID. Although there are various applications and thus a number of different forms (for more information see WikiPedia), the ones you read about in the news are small integrated circuits with antennas which are embedded in for example stickers. They are passive devices, meaning that they receive energy from a transponder to which they send their ID. They are being used for tracking goods, access control to buildings and so on. Some people suggest that they will replace bar codes in super markets and will be used to store biometric information in passports. These applications raise some privacy issue - you obviously do not want to be tracked by some one reading utilizing a RFID tag that is in the sweater you bought a year ago, do you? Well, on this page you find a fun way of destroying a RFID tag that almost cannot be noticed from outside. Have fun looking at the pictures and watching the movie ...
- Analyze DLM for IDL
- The Analyze 7.5 format is a simple data format used by the (f)MRI research community. It's main advantage is its simplicity. Since many tools use the Analyze format it would be useful if one could read and write data in Analyze format directly from IDL. Thus, I wrote a Dynamically Loadable Module (DLM) for IDL that provides a function for reading (read_analyze) and a function for writing (write_analyze) data in Analyze format. The DLM is available under conditions of the GNU Public License.
